The NSF funded Lui Agri Project is transforming the communities of Ulana in Keiskammahoek and Alice in the Eastern Cape through sustainable agriculture. Across both sites, 274 young people who were previously not in education, employment, or training (NEET) are now actively gaining hands-on skills in plant production. Despite the off-season, innovation thrives, with fresh produce grown in plastic tunnels and seeding trays, enabling year-round farming of tomatoes, leafy greens, beetroot, and more. With essential farming equipment, such as tractors and, the project is not only improving food security but also creating job opportunities and renewed hope.
